SECTION SEVEN: THIS MONTH'S ARTICLE
An Overview of the Japanese Music Market
by Gregory Williams, Luv Grooves Radio & Magazine (Japan)
© 2013 All Rights Reserved. Used By Permission
Japan has long been a country surrounded by an aura of mystique. To many, it is the land of the rising sun. To others, it is some far away land. To even more, it is a place flooded with unattainable riches. While the first two viewpoints are indeed true, the latter is only partially correct.
As you may know, the Japanese are arguably the largest demographic of tourists on the planet and pump billions of dollars into the local economy of countless cities annually. What you may not know is what the Japanese spend on tourism is minuscule compared to what they spend on music.
Japan has a long tradition of fans remaining loyal to their favorite artists and entering the Japanese market can be incredibly lucrative for you if you choose to. You can regularly find artists who haven't released new material in decades touring Japan and selling out venues and you can enjoy the same kind of long-term success and then some without the backing of a major label or marketing budget.
There was a time when the mere thought of having an international fan base and touring overseas was reserved only for "mainstream" artists, but that is no longer the case, especially when it comes to Japan. Despite the incredible buying power of the Japanese, Japan largely remains an untapped market and there's never been a better time for independent artists and musicians to capitalize on the many opportunities that await you.
Just imagine a scenario where you have a die hard fan base who buy from you over and over for years! Now combine that with countless collaboration and sponsorship opportunities. Hordes of Japanese artists are desperate to collaborate with you, which means instant exposure and opportunities that can take your career through the stratosphere .... all while remaining independent!
We all have days where it's difficult at times to visualize having a long-term career due to the fickleness of fans and the industry as a whole, but this isn't the case once you build your Japanese fan base. The great thing about doing so is that it's far more easier than you can possibly ever imagine.
A great example of what building an international fan base can lead to is N'Sync. They debued in Germany and created such an enormous buzz overseas that it lead to superstardom not only in the states, but globally. Japan can be your catapult to global success!
There's nothing more tragic than wasted talent and from this point forward and no matter your present situation, you now have the knowledge that Japan and other countries overseas are a great option for you to set yourself apart and build a niche for that can make all of your musical dreams a reality.

The eBook familiarizes you with the Japanese mindset, the common mistakes musicians and businesses make when expanding into the Japanese market, as well as tips on how you can reach the Japanese market at little or no cost to you. A MUST READ for any musician ready to take your career global.
